Vice President, Oncology Precision Medicine, Pharmaceuticals United States

Pharma-Cruiting Life Sciences Executive Search is seeking a Vice President Business Development for our Oncology Precision Medicine company client.  (No direct reports).  The successful candidate can reside anywhere in the United States.

Our client uses NGS technology and has built a database that will help treat cancer patients by being able to use the history of similar patients to see what treatments have the best chance of success.

  • They work with doctors to help diagnose patients by using similar characteristics from the history they have of previous patients in the database.
  • They work with most of the top cancer facilities in the nation.
  • With the advent of genomic sequencing, they can finally decode and process patient’s genetic makeup, having more data than ever before but providers don’t have the infrastructure or expertise to make sense of said data.
  • They are on a mission to connect an entire ecosystem to redefine how genomic data is used in clinical oncology settings. By analyzing a patient’s genetic data in the context of molecular cancer therapies, our Client empowers physicians to make real-time data-driven decisions based on the comprehensive computational analysis of a patient’s unique pathology.
  • The Senior Director of Business Development is a newly created and critical role that will develop and implement our client’s Pharmaceutical partnerships and strategies.

Responsibilities:

  • Build and develop market intelligence on precision medicine and molecular diagnostics trends within the pharmaceutical industry.
  • Lead assessments and cross-functional due diligence teams in evaluating the scientific merit and strategic fit of Client opportunities, and make recommendations to senior leadership.
  • Closely collaborate with internal cross-functional stakeholders to develop and implement the Client strategy for priority focus areas.
  • Source new oncology therapeutic opportunities that are consistent with the company’s scientific and business objectives, including preparing in-depth opportunity landscapes.
  • Develop and recommend proposed deal structures and terms, and negotiate term sheets and agreements with potential partners.

Required Skills:

  • Bachelor degree required; MBA strongly preferred.
  • A minimum of 8-10 years successful experience in management in the healthcare pharmaceutical industry.
  • Strong understanding of healthcare regulatory and enforcement environments along with demonstrated integrity on the job.
  • Oncology experience selling into Pharmaceutical company with a rolodex of contacts
  • Strong attention to detail combined with a keen ability to recognize issues in the context of higher-level policies and regulations. Ability to work and make decisions independently but understand situations where leadership input is essential.
  • Working experience in business development, strategic alliances, financial modeling or partnerships in healthcare.
  • Working understanding of emerging concepts in healthcare technology such as machine learning/AI, big data and analytics, digital health and their potential application to the commercialization of pharmaceutical products.
  • Entrepreneurial and innovative ways of working, comfortable with ambiguity since this role will be part of defining a new capability and function, and frequently interacting with stakeholders outside of our industry (technology, medical devices, etc.)
  • Maturity, confidence and superior communication skills. Must feel very comfortable working with cross functional teams and the ability to influence others
